These duck coloring pages can be added into a unit study about wetlands, ponds, ducks, or even farm animals.
Pictures of Mallards to Color
One of the most commonly recognized ducks in ponds and streams. Mallards are beautiful animals.
Like many species of birds, male mallards are bright and colorful. While the female's feathers are more muted shades of brown.
You can color the male duck using vibrant colors. In the wild, male mallards have a green head, yellow beak, and grey and black feathers.
Male Mallards have a band around their neck that looks like a necklace. Females are mostly brown, but have a band of bright cobalt blue on their wings.

In the morning, pairs of ducks can be seen flying into wetlands and ponds. As they swim you can hear them squawking and flapping their wings in the water.
Duckling Coloring Pages
Is there anything cuter than baby ducklings? Well maybe baby chickens, but little ducklings are adorable! You can color the six baby ducks on this coloring page using a varitiey of colors.
Yellows and browns to resemble real life ducklings spotted in real life or featured in springtime children's books.
My two favorite picture books about ducks include Make Way for Ducklings and Have You Seen My Duckling?
The classic book Make Way for Ducklings is a perfect children's book to go along with these pages. Follow along with a pair of Mallards as they find a spot to build a nest in the city of Boston.
You and your kids will love this beautifully illustrated story about a family of ducks.
Have You Seen My Duckling is an other children's classic. Follow along with a mother duck and her babies as they search the pond for her missing duckling.
A fun way to use this sheet is to write a story to go along with the image. Your kids can describe where the ducks are heading.
In the white spaces you can even draw a scene to go along with the story. The edge of a pond, a forest, or maybe even a public garden.
Wood Duck Coloring Sheet
These beautiful ducks have unique coloring that is different than Mallards. I have been lucky enough to spot these stunning ducks within wetlands and swamps. They truly are beautiful.
If you have never seen one of these ducks, it would be fun to do some research and color in the sheet to resemble a realistic duck.
Similar to a male Mallards, male Wood ducks have green coloring on their heads However, they have red around their eyes.
The cool thing about Wood ducks is they can roost in trees and nesting boxes. Unlike Mallards, they have claws on their feet which allow them to perch in trees!
Pair this coloring sheet with the Mallards printable. It would be fun to compare and contrast the differences between these two different species of ducks!
Color and Write Duck
Perfect for young children who are writing their letters. A fun way to practice fine motor skills. Use large crayons, markers, or even water color paint to color in this sheet.
The word duck or capital and lower case letter D can all be written on the line. I like to include at least one of these pages within each coloring page set.
Hopefully these realistic duck coloring pages have inspired you to learn more about these amazing animals.

Julie, these are so perfect for spring! I am going to print these off and do a field trip to the wildlife bird refuge right next to our house. These will work perfectly for that, thank you!

These are great! The ducks have returned to our pond and my girls LOVE watching them. My 2 year old will enjoy coloring these and my older girls can use them as a tool to help them really examine the designs and colors on the mallards and wood ducks. Thanks Julie!

What a wonderful experience for your girls. Ponds are amazing habitats!

This would be so fun to pair with an outing to feed the ducks at a local park. We have one down the road and this would make a great park pairing, especially with the picnic tables there! I feel a nature outing coming up... Thanks again!
Julie
Yes! That is exactly what I was thinking when I made the pages. I hope you have fun!

Im so happy I've stumbled across this page. We homeschool with an emphasis on nature studies and it's so hard to find realistic drawings for the kids to colour . I love all of these
