Foundational Skills
Number flashcards can be used to learn the basics including recognizing each number from 0 to 20. Young children can trace the numbers on the cards using their fingers to become familiar with the shape of each number.
Young children love reciting and recognizing each number in order even before they understand what the amount means.
Simply lay out the cards in order to create a number line as a visual for your kids as they practice these skills.
To practice amounts, you can use these cards along with real objects. Natural items including rocks or snap cubes can go along with these cards.
More Advanced Skills
Once your child is ready you can use these cards along with hands-on manipulatives to practice basic addition and subtraction.
You can then move onto focusing on even verses odd numbers and skip counting.
This one set can be used for multiple years as your child builds upon their math skills!
Preparing the Flashcards
Download: the pdf includes four number cards per one sheet of paper. Each page fits a standard 8 ½ by 11 inch piece of paper.
Print: for a sturdier card print on cardstock or heavy weight paper
Cut Out: use a paper cutter or scissors to cut out the cards. You can leave the edges square cut or follow the curve for rounded edges.
Laminate: optional, but laminating the cards will keep the cards protected. I use this laminator at home and have been really happy with it's performance.
Store: keep cards together using an elastic band or a small bag. You can even leave them out in a basket at a math center.
